When the wind stirs the light, the space begins to breathe quietly. Ripple captures the fleeting beauty of the moment when natural forces draw ripples across space.
Inspired by the image of raindrops falling on a water surface, the entire space subtly responds to changes in weather and time. Natural light refracts through suspended acrylic pipes and triangular prisms, creating shimmering patterns that undulate across the floor like water. These patterns continuously shift with the movement of air, spreading ripple-like phenomena throughout the space.
The architectural structure was developed through measurements of local wind direction and solar altitude, along with tests of material responsiveness. By relying solely on natural forces—without any artificial power—the work manifests ephemeral phenomena that can only be experienced “here and now.”
Based on Nishi’s concept of Phenomenal Architecture, Ripple reconstructs natural forces as architectural elements. Through the dialogue between wind and light, the space moves as if breathing, quietly revealing the inherent order of nature.
