Set along the coast of Naoetsu, Niigata, this large-scale installation was conceived around the beauty of the sunset sinking into the Sea of Japan and the rhythmic ebb and flow of the tides.
At high tide, the vessels are filled with seawater; at low tide, they remain as pools that geometrically reflect the sky. The ever-changing rhythms of nature shape the form of the work, transforming the space itself into a site where time seems to breathe.
Created under a team system led by Nishi at the Spatial Design Laboratory, the work was realized through collaboration with local residents who participated in coastal cleaning and installation. Through this process, the piece emerged from a dialogue between people and place, embodying a phenomenon of relational interdependence where nature, humanity, environment, and society intersect.
moor the sky represents an attempt to reconnect people and their environment through phenomena—an embodiment of architectural poetics in which social construction and poetic order coexist.
