The HonoAkari was created as part of Christmas illuminations displayed in Showa Memorial Park in Tachikawa in 2016. Takatoku wanted to design a serene illumination which would merge with the lush green colours of the park, therefore he took on the challenge to create an installation which would move in a natural, not powered by batteries, way. By doing so, he wanted to express a winter-like feeling he experienced when walking around in the snow. The winter air was so pervasively cold that it dried out his eyes making them misty and his vision blurred. Everything looked like a picture that was out of focus. When one looks at this installation, details cannot be seen - those beautiful light spheres are always “out of focus”. In order to make them, he used glass wind chimes (shaped like a bell) which he sandblasted. Inside the spheresThe Christmas spheres represent the traditional he placed flexible LEDs, therefore he was able to create captivating blurred light. Japanese wind-bells, because their form is the same as the installation, they react to the wind in exactly the same way. The tongue of a bell was silenced by the LED positioning as it was winter and a memorial place. The feelings Taka wanted to convey to the viewer were peace and calmness. He would compare the HonoAkari to a feeling one gets when watching a rare spectacle of glowing fireflies gathering in total silence on the banks of river Masubuchi in Miyagi prefecture. Moreover, the illumination generated by the light spheres could be called in Japanese 仄のあかり a faint light. However, the sound ’ho’ (faint) is a homonym and also means - "" (to sail), therefore, Taka created a new word to describe his installation 帆のあかり- the sailing light. It is a light which craves wind in order to be alive, as in this short poem:  “A faint light floating in the air being moved by gentle winter winds, a sailing light”
