MIRAGE CUBE is inspired by the concept of Translucent Mystery from the book 建築光幻学—透光不透視の世界, exploring the interaction between light, transparency, and reflection. Takatoku became fascinated by the idea of light passing through matter while obscuring vision, leading him to focus on this phenomenon in architecture and nature. Observing an aquarium, he discovered a phenomenon where reflections caused by light and water appeared like a transparent mirror, sparking his desire to create a space that employs this effect. After extensive research, he developed a unique acrylic cube that can hold water; when combined, these cubes create a dreamlike space where light unpredictably reflects and refracts, shimmering in rainbow hues. Balancing transparency and opacity, MIRAGE CUBE draws visitors into a poetic play of light and illusion, allowing them to experience the delicate interplay of visual phenomena and mystery. For Takatoku, this work marks a significant beginning in combining architectural space with optical phenomena, launching his journey into the realm of light.
