Christmas events are held every year at Midland Square, a commercial facility located in Nagoya, and in 2016 Takatoku was put in charge of the Christmas stage. This was a collaborative art project initiated by Kousei Komatsu, a Japanese artist. Three sizes of wafer thin trees were made using a special material called Picasus – a modern nano-layered film. The units/trees were placed on a wall mimicking a big tree. The authors imagined a Christmas in a forest, where all trees were lit up creating a mesmerizing view. The client directed the team to create a display where the main colour would be golden, therefore, by trial and error a unique golden light effect was added to enhance the installation. The light illuminated each unit, each little tree was glowing like a jewel. A complex light reflection would flare around the trees rotating in gentle, contained strokes of wind. The installation was placed indoors, therefore there was no natural wind and the creators had to invent a way of bringing their installation to life by placing fans at the bottom of the display. This artwork would take the viewers on a journey to a special Christmas forest.
